Strange question it might be, but I'm disabled and require an Automatic. Period.

I've seen a Exige Touring 1.8 (Automatic). Although I could not see any others?

Anyone know for sure if there is, or have I seen a typo.

:p

Tell me to mind my own business if you like but if you are disbled and so can't drive a manual would you not have trouble getting in and out of such a car? Especially the Exige.

It could be that it is a minor disability with which he has no vertical movement in his left foot? Did you read wheelchair when you saw disability? I have the same habit

I have a friend with a foot like that but can drive a manual quite well, but weather he should is another matter.

I've never heard of an automatic but there may be specialists out there who could do a conversion.

Nope I assumed some lack of mobility / movement in one leg.

The main reason I mentioned it is that I sat in an Exige once. Both getting in and out of the thing was a struggle to say the least :o

Lotus haven't made any automatic cars for over 2 decades.

Getting in and out is hard at first but you soon develop a nack. Yes it's harder than just about any other road car but think of it like putting on a mechwarrior suit :p

Left leg - fully extended, right hand on door sill, butt, then right leg (this is the most difficult bit if the seat isn't all the way back).

If you really do need an automatic then you might be in luck next year as they're developing a 2+2 car which is rumoured to have a BMW engine and possibly a choice of gear boxes... I don't think the 2009 Esprit will have any auto boxes though as its just not the sort of car that would have that option.

Aye, difficult to say without knowing the nature of the disability. For instance, my ex's brother had a form of dyslexia (dyspraxia??) that meant along with having some perculiar habits (such as believing that every sausage has a beginning end and an end end, and furthermore must be eaten from the beginning to the end), he could not comprehend the manual transmission of a car and drives a CVT Micra.

99.9% sure it's a typo.

I've certainly never come across an automatic Elise/Exige on my travels.

Fair enough, just didnt want to get my hopes up. :p

I'm happy with my roadster for sure, just ya know keeping an eye out for the next thing. :D

Nope as I already said Lotus haven't made anything but manual cars for decades. There has *never* been any Elise or Exige with anything other than a fully manual gear box.

Might be worth emailing Lotus just to see if any specials have been made for people who need and auto such as yourself. You never know, one or 2 might jut be out there.

That's an Exige S too so they've got the advert totally wrong.
It's also got the Super Touring pack... what sort of person puts that heavy chunk of mass into an Exige!?:eek:

Hmm, Americans and people that sell their Exige after 90 miles I guess :p
