Love and miss single player DOOM?

One Doom fan, 300 hours, and one gargantuan level -

https://killscreen.com/articles/doom-map-300-hours-make/

Well, completed in 2 hours 5 mins on ultra violence. This is how maps should be designed

The lost soul tower was ridiculously hard as was escaping the cyberdemon room!

So many parts of the level you come out and think "wow, i was here an hour ago"

Can't believe original Doom is still holding out in 2016. By the end the game was running at 10fps in parts due to over 1000 enemies laying dead on the floor not to mention the general map size

Here's one I prepared earlier

I tried the hard reset demo, not worth 1p IMO. I played for 5 minutes before I was bored and deleted it

Wow a whole 5 mins on a demo. Well if you look at the steam reviews and feedback you will see you are in the minority. ;)

Errr, sorry

If a game is worth playing I can usually tell after the first few minutes. There are thst many games out there that are similar, they need to really stand out or have something new or I won't even bother playing

Your loss mate, its a cracking old school shooter. I just think 5 mins on a demo isnt really any where near enough time to appreciate Hard Reset, it gets good feed back for a reason, its a decent game.

No. It only takes minutes to see what type of game it is, the pace, general story, graphics, if its like other games etc.

The ones that got me hooked were games like max payne for the story, unreal for graphics and music, the feel of games like dirt rally in vr or intro video openings like redalert and half life. There are many more classics over the years on pc and consoles that you know will be good for the start.

Nonsense post:rolleyes:

Not convinced...

Reviews say otherwise and its defo worth 1.69 to me :p

He's just miffed he couldn't get it for 1.69 :p

Genuinely not. There are way better games that are similar price or cheaper on the Halloween sale (or just on sale and cheap in general)

System Shock 2 - £1.74
Limbo - £1.39
Penumbra: Black Plague Gold Edition - £1.39
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus - 99p
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus®, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - £1.99
POSTAL Redux - £1.49

I used to love Postal and didnt know there was a remake until now. Purchased.

I've just downloaded System Shock 2. Never played it before. Can you recommend a few mods and where to get them?

It's been quite a while since I've modded it, and the last time I did (around a year & a half ago), I used a mod (called Infinite) that I wouldn't recommend for your first playthrough - since it changes the original experience too much. It's a great mod, but perhaps for another time. Of course, it's up to you. :)

I don't quite have the time at the moment to give this the attention it deserves, but for now I'll drop in a couple of links so you can have a look around. I'm happy to help later on, but I won't be free until a bit later in the evening.

I do remember one mod which is highly recommended called SHTUP (no, I'm not being rude :D):

A weapon texture pack is also a good mod to use; I forget it's exact name, but I'll dig it out later.

Another personal choice of mine was a little mod which allows you to turn off respawning enemies.
