Change the Ram to Corsair xms3 and maybe cut back on the motherboard and you would have a very nice PC
 
For a bit more you can add a 460 and/or better mobo, but you can keep going all day, try n stick to your original budget, the build above should be sufficient for most things still

Ok thats really helpful, looking at what a difference it makes I think I might save up for a short while. Also, will stuff get cheaper after Christmas or is it better to buy now?
 
For £430 you could get a better motherboard, a quad core and a gtx 460 which is great.

For £500 he could get something even better! But why stop there? For £600 he could -- no wait, for £1000 he could get...

OP, have you considered 2nd hand? With a total system budget as low as yours, buying new isn't necessarily the best bet.
