My spec is in sig , playing arma 3, all settings in afterburner are at stock, but the gpu usage doesn't go above 50% ish .. and the core clock only goes to 800 max , when the stock is 1000, i5 means my fps is around the 40 mark :( Tomb raider and other taxing games max both those out , is it something I'm missing or is it the game itself ??

Good frame rates in ArmA 3 MP depend on 3 things:

- Your CPU

- The server you're playing on

- The average ping/latency of the rest of the players on the server

In that case, turn up your graphics settings until the FPS drops. Turning graphics settings down in ArmA games just loads the CPU, making things slower still.

You're CPU limited in Arma3. My x58 bloomsfield struggled to feed my GPU's in that game also.

Arma 3 is a pig of a game to get constantly good fps, it just won't allow it, due to, as others have mentioned, it being heavily CPU dependant.

You may find increasing you graphics settings, eg, MSAA, res etc will help stabilize your fps and you may even gains more by increasing settings.

As for multiplayer, that will always be hit and miss.

presuming you have done the startup parameter tweaks ?

-world=empty -noPause -noSplash -noLogs -nolauncher -maxMem=7144 -maxVram=3071 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=4

for 4gb vram gpu it would be -maxVram=4096

No I have not tried those , thanks a lot will give them a try next time I'm on :)

Do I put those exactly as they are with the = signs ?

-world=empty -noPause -noSplash -noLogs -nolauncher -maxMem=7144 -maxVram=4096 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=8

open steam in game library click properties of arma 3

set launch options

paste that line in there presuming your rig is one in sig you'll be needing 4 cores 8 threads, you can put whatever memory you wish not sure arma 3 can even use over a certain amount I just use 7gb because I have 8gb ram

there are other tweaks you can do like maxframes ahead etc google arma 3 tweaks and you'll find it all, and whilst your at it download arma 3 launcher and paste the same startup parameters in the settings of that

Turn them up ? That will mean less fps?

Turning up your detail won't get you more FPS because your CPU is the bottleneck. However, turning up the detail will look better and give your GPU more to do so GPU usage will go up.

ARMA 3 has a pretty crappy engine which is largely run on just one thread so you need CPU clock speed primarily.

Multiplayer is a whole different kettle of fish, a lot of public servers are too full and a mess performance wise.

On my system with a 2700k at 4.8Ghz I see about 20-40% GPU usage on each of my 7990s cores in most multiplayer servers when busy.

With ARMA, turning some things up results in higher fps, because when they are set low the CPU does the work instead of the GPU.

Turning them up gives the CPU less jobs to do, and therefore reducing the bottle neck and giving the game more grunt to run itself and the GPUs.

So turn up the video sampling in the video options, or play in a larger resolution. Fps loss is minimal (until you hit GPU ram issues not being enough,) the game looks nicer and your GPU's will show much higher usage.

Cheers that, will try it hopefully this weekend when I'm home :)

Isn't that exactly what I suggested in the first half of my post
