Low oil pressure

The thing is you shouldn't be waiting for the oil light to come on. It takes a few seconds to check your oil level weekly or two weekly which people should be doing anyway along with tyre pressures, brake fluid and coolant levels and topping up the screenwash bottle. By the time the oil light comes on you could have already damaged the engine.

Myself, my best mate and his wife all drove from our respective workplaces to meet up for a curry and, after the food, we all jumped in our cars (all in the same car park) and I could instantly hear the rattle of a low oil level engine as they both leave. As they've each driven their own car I don't know which specific car it is, but I know its one of them so I message my mate who is NOT confident with cars/maint etc to tell him "One of your cars is low on oil, check them" and I know he can do this because I showed him when I saw his cars oil light on months previously "Oh yeah, it does that sometimes......" and we got that one sorted.

Anyway, 2 days later as his wife is driving to Wales from Stoke, I get a panicked call from his wife about the oil light which has been on for the past 10 MILES!!!!

You just can't help some people :D Luckily there was no immediate damage caused, but still................if you get told to check the oil, probably a great idea to do that right away!

Topped it up with some oil yesterday and the light was still coming on so called out a mechanic who said it needs an Oil sump/gasket replacement which he is working on now.
Thats cost me £500, i've only had it a year, already had the front brakes done(£300) , service (£200), front tyres replaced (£260). Its a right little money pit so i'm going to sell it on motorway/webuyany car.

Lesson learned, do not buy a car with a wet belt.

All the issues you have listed are unrelated to the wet belt just basic maintenance.

As for the mechanic changing the sump gasket that sounds unlikely to be a failure and if it is he's overcharging you.

Is that including fitting?

I’ve sold the car now as i don’t want to deal with the belt when that fails.
I was basing it on the cost of 5L oil, filter, gasket and then labour at say £50-60 for the hour. Even then i would say £150 is probably the higher end for it.

I'm not a mechanic or anything but some things like an oil and filter change aren't expensive like £150+ even for a porsche etc even though they charge £250+ for it.
