Hello, I am just posting this to ask what I would need to upgrade to get more FPS in Rust, I'm currently running 1440x1080 on low graphics at 40-50 fps.. Budget around 200-300$

Get yourself an rx 6600 it is double the performance of your 1060.

100% this.....bang for buck there isnt a better upgrade imo. Changing your CPU for a 5600 or 5600x may also be worth it later on but for now just drop the 6600 in it will feel like a new game.

@mickyflinn @Columbo he posted a screenshot showing low gpu utilization - is there a reason you disregard that and recommend a gpu anyway?

Because its not just about utilisation, there are big gains in rasterisation between the generations and how the cards go about their tasks for any given level of work.
I've recently changed a friends cards from a 1050Ti to an rx6600 and he's seen nearly a 100% uplift in FPS in most games.

@Columbo summed it superbly, rust at 1440p low detail will get you 50 to 60 fps which isn't to far off What op is getting.

One thing that should be checked is memory speed in case its running at board defaults.

Msi afterburner is a better tool to monitor imo.

Thanks for those answers.

I'm leaning towards the problem being single core cpu performance (I expect the logical chart shows one core at 100%), and not enough ram (presumably this game is a ram hog because usually 16gb is enough, or maybe there's other stuff hogging ram).

I didn't think it was the gpu because of low utilization, but have no problem recommending someone replace a GTX 1060.

So I guess combined we're saying replace everything... which blows the 200-300 budget.

Usually in this situation I recommend saving up for a complete pc instead of buying cheap upgrades for an older system.
