Hi fellow cookery masters :)

I need some advice

Me and my fella are trying to loose some weight - nothing exciting, just reducing calorie intake.

The thing is, I like to bake :D I love to experiment with new recipes and make something nice and interesting either for a desert or as a main meal

Last night we were having a very healthy chicken curry (which consisted of in the spoiler)
Chicken (skinless and pan fried) 100g each = 187 cal
Peppers (red, green and yellow, cooked with the chicken) 40g each = 7.5 cal
Pataks Fusion Indian Stir Fry Sauce, Punjabi 5 Spice. 70g each = 85
Wholegrain Brown Pilau Rice (Tilda) 125 g each = 164
So the meal totalled up to 444 cals each - good right?

I made some home made Naan breads (gotta love the Naans). Really easy and they were lovely :) Problem I have is, even though I used Zero Fat Greek Yoghurt (170g/ 97 cals in total used) the Plain Flour totalled 863 cals!!!

Normal Plain Flour is 345 cal per 100g (250g used in the recipe)

What alternatives are there out there for traditional plain flour with a lower calorie count? I would love to make these Naans again but I really cant unless we have LOADS of cals left at the end of the day :(

I think you'll struggle to make naans that are low in kcal - they are always the worst (in terms of calories) part of a kebab or curry.

I'd recommend chappattis instead. Easier to make and as they're smaller they're obviously lower in kcal. You could always bulk up the curry a bit more with extra peppers/tomatoes (super low in kcal).

I'd also recommend making the curry as hot as you can stand it with extra chillies. The tiny extra kcal burn from the spiciness is always a nice thing when you're dieting.

Have you tried rice/chickpea/potato flour instead of wheat? It might have less calories, though I don't know how much it'd affect the flavour.

More simply, have you considered just making smaller naans?

On a related note, I notice you're using a bought jar of sauce for the curry. Have you considered making your own from scratch? Fried spices with a little oil, blended onions/garlic/ginger, chopped tomatoes and water makes a lovely sauce and it'd be barely any calories at all.

Yeah I have made my own sauce before now - I just got the packet gratis from the train station on the way home :) Was a promo pack and got a 30p voucher off my next purchase too, love promo/marketing people when they are stood in the train stations :D

Wholemeal or leave it out. Not much more you can do really.

Wholemeal flour has pretty much the same calories as white flour.
While it may be healthier it's not exactly a low calorie alternative.

To the OP, either make the naans smaller, or leave them out.
If you want to eat breads and things there aren't really any alternatives
