ok so i overclocked my e6400 to 2.560 and ran prime95 and temps got upto 65c so i stopped the test and 2mins after my temps soared to 85c. everything seemed stable, so my point is, if i lower my vcore it will lower temps at the expense of stability? my vcore is 1.39 at mo. im running stock hsf. thanks all in advance

The idea is to keep lowering you v-core untill it becomes unstable, then start upping it until it becomes stable (finding the sweet spot).

So pick a voltage, for example 1.3v run orthos for a minimum of 8-12 hrs if its stable lower it a bit more, and if it fails at any time during that period up the voltage a bit.

Its all about finding the right voltage.

For instance on mine @ 1.3V my max temp is around 52deg but at 1.35 it jumps to 62deg.

So its worth spending the time doing this.

Now back to your temps they do seem high, what cpu cooler are you using and how much do the temps differ with the side off your case?

Whats the idle temps like?

im using stock cooler but got a tuniq 120 on the way. my idle temps are 35c. just had a look in bios and my voltage is set to auto ill change that to 1.3 and see what happens

gary - thats a heck of a difference in temp for such a small vcore change ...

I get about 5C difference on my setup from 1.41Vcore to 1.5Vcore !

Mark.
