Have just been offered a swap - my S14a for an LPG Landy V8. The car in question has 130k on the clock but seems to have been very well looked after. Mechanic mates says this isn't really a problem for the V8 anyway.
Can anyone offer advice in what to look out for and any resources forums etc?

I'm currently getting about 22-25mpg of Optimax from the 14a so I can see myself saving rather a lot of dosh with the LPG, any comments on this?

Ta :D

Are you sure that you want to move from a fun-to-drive RWD coupe to a lardy off-roader, LPG conversion or not.

Its probably on its dying legs, and if the conversion wasnt done properly could be dangerous.

Sounds like it could be a damn laugh tbh. If you get bored with the 3.5 then there's the 3.9. If you get bored with the 3.9 there's the 4.2. Then there are all the tuning goodies to go with it, 300hp can be made with beer money, more at great expense :D

Go for it. 8 cylinders don't forget :D

130k isnt that much really if the rest of the car is fine. LPG is very good for an engine if it can cope with the higher burn temp. It pollutes and degrades the oil far less and so engine wear is greatly reduced, by half some believe.

I occasionally use petrol so I cant verify this but some say the oil remains golden until the next oil change, its running that clean.

You can take the CAT off for better responce and a bit more bhp plus its such a common conversion you will have plenty of support from others in the same boat. There is an addon ecu device that will advance timing automatically to take advantage of the high octane, costs about a hundred or so plus fitting.

LPG prices have risen by a third in the last year and the treasury is likely to raise taxes by another 4p this september which is about 10% overall.
LPG calorific value is about 80% of petrols so your mpg will fall in comparison though that little addon above will help reverse that.

What kind of LPG system is it, carb or injection. Carb can be hundreds and injection is usually thousands especially with 8 cylinders so Iam guessing its carb which can still be ok as you have torque to spare.

These guys are good I think, they did a biturbo Maserati in the past and heres a V12 BMW discussion of various setups

300BHP from a Rover from Beer money?

How so, good s'ah! I thought 380BHP was a theoretical maximum for a streetable Rover, I appeciate that the last 80 may be the most expensive parts, but how do you get to 300? :)

Yes, you're dreaming if you think youll be saving a lot!!! LPG might be cheaper but a V8 (landy) will drink it @ about 15mpg...

What landy is it? Rangerover classic? P38? 90? 110? Disco 1?

Haha, and if you get bored with that i have a 4.5 in the garage.

If you are swapping purely for the reduction in fuel cost, forget it.
I've got a Discovery 3.9 with LPG conversion and 60l tanks.
I get about 120 miles between fills around town, and up to 150/60 on longer runs.
A fill is about £20.
Yes factor in reduced cost of fuel, but also remember that a V8 is giving you a max of around 20mpg - less if you welly it.
Also the fuel economy and performance on LPG is slightly less than that on petrol.
When I balance out the reduced cost of fuel, reduced consumption/performance and the overall MPG of the vhicle, it just about still costs in - having had it for nigh on 6 years now the car itself is a little tired and I am thinking of changing it due to not really needing a big 4*4 anymore.
If you buy expecting your fuel costs to half or more overnight it won't happen, leaving aside any practical reasons for moving from a coupe to a 4*4.
