Luggage recommendations?

Went with a TravelPro Platinum Elite large and also one of the Platinum Elite duffel bags. Very happy with them, they seem very high quality.

Check your sizes with the airline sizes.

EasyJet has sizes for luggage that are now smaller than previously accepted sizes.

I measured the sizes of all my backpacks that have previously been fine for airline under seat use. Turns out they're larger than the EJ current sizes so I had to quickly get a little backpack. Some people ended up with the best part of £50 charge to put the backpack into the hold or reclassify it as cabin luggage..

The hold luggage was also limited to 23Kg, which is smaller than before too. Given the hard samsonite case was 5Kg by itself there was some gnashing and ended up paying for some additional weight (up to 26Kg) for one bag.. Mine is a soft bag and so was in the region of 21Kg.. but on the way back the Malta EJ bag drop rejected to take it as a bag drop and it had to go into 'over sized' (no fee) but did need to go through the X-ray machine whilst I waited and they then took it.

This is unfortunately the way it’s starting to go. They incentivise their staff to nail people by giving them a cut. That knob from Ryanair proudly said it the other day/week.

Its getting to the stage where it won’t actually be cheaper to fly these budget airlines with the way they are changing the rules at the drop of a hat.

Flew to Jersey on EasyJet and the bag measuring stands were fine at Manchester Airport, mate got his bag in no problem and it was accepted on the plane, return flight from Jersey they have put a piece of wood round the top of the measurer and his bag wouldn't fit, charged him £40 to get his bag checked in, scumbag move so I actually won't fly with them again.

O'Leary from Ryanair is an even worse POS so I try to avoid them but it's difficult to get to Dublin from the Midlands without flying that carrier

Yup, does my head in. There really should be laws against this type of practice. They’d do it with weight if they could, oh it’s 30kg going out but the return flight is 5kg

They get away with it, imagine if it caught a politician out they'd have it raised in the house of commons quicker than they could put their expenses claim in

Issue with airlines is they're very prone to promoting from within, a bit like the civil service with wings, so the entire triangle becomes a political hamstring of people defending their patches. This is coupled with the competitive low margins price war means you really get a bad product that has lost it's focus on getting a customer from a to b with the least hassle to screwing the customer over from a to b to make the most money.

BA also on the same route but cost difference brings more volume as people will spend 3 hours slumming it.
