Luis garcia *claps

not a legend as some have made out. summed up the transition liverpool were making. but he shows how a foreign player can immerse themselves in the new club etc.

This discussion has been now on numerous Liverpool boards that I visit. Is Luis Garcia a legend? I say he is. During the Cl of 2005, he made the biggest contribution than any one imo (even Gerrard) and without little Luis, I really don't think we would have even got into the final.

In Athens, if Luis was fit, we would have won it. He was that important a player to us, and in my eyes a legend,

I think that's absolutely fabulous, he took to the Liverpool fans straight away, he got a fair bit of stick (unjust in my opinion) but he weighed in with some super goals and goals at important times (Chelsea x1 semi final, Arsenal, Juve 1/4 finals).

Fixed ;)

Nice letter though.

Ahem both goals count ;)

And Ripper, totally true I believe, he would have provided that something different (like Torres does now) which we lacked.

it depends how we view a legend - ie. one player you never forget or one that could be relied on to carry the team coupled with his consistent performance. whilst he scored legendary goals i don't think he could be classed as a legend.

he did make a great contribution but who is to say another player in that free role would not have done even more. benitez's style, especially of old, always gave freedom to a player like him; so whilst he did well he could have done much much better.

bold claim that you would have won in athens with him. his technique is superb though

Picked up English pretty well in three years ;)
He spoke English when he arrived :)

And i agree with hilly, had he been fit he would have made a huge difference in the final. We were missing that little spark which he could have gave us and he has a habit of popping up with a goal when it counts.

So why did they sell him if he was that big a difference?

I'm not saying he wasn't I just dont remember why they let him go.

Great letter though and a really nice touch. :)

It was thought that it was a condition of the Torres deal, we tried to offer Ciise but they insisted on Garcia. Also £4-5m for a 29 year old who's just had a serious injury and only had 1 year left on his deal wasn't a bad offer.

Thanks, yeah that seems a decent enough deal.

Exactly, at the time the deal made sense, there were reports of his family being home sick, and he always wanted to play for them again. If it meant us landing Torres who we needed more than Luis, then it had to happen. Which is why we bought Benni.
