Lulzsec!

Anonymous was constructed via 4chan as well, and i didn't say they were going to act, i said they may act due to reading reports about what Anonymous thinks of what lulzsec is doing.

"Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is an Internet meme that originated in 2003 on the imageboard 4chan."

Seriously, research.

Have these guys made mainstream press as of yet?

Yeah, my BBC News feed has been updated with several news about the group's doings.

LulzSec are not anonymous though are they, they have an identity.

Not a single member of the group was named, they hide behind the alias and for all we know, these could be the very same people that were involved in the "Anonymous attacks" that decided that Anonymous is getting unwarranted attention and have tracked the heat over to another group.

I do like how on OcUK some act like "Anonymous" is some super powerful internet boogieman, Lulzsec better watch out before some porn spammer from 4chan gets angry!

To be fair to Anon, the HBGary thing was pretty epic, although as with anything Anon, you have all sorts calling themselves that, and probably only a few dozen do all the technical stuff, while most of the rest are hangers-on,kids off /b/ and idiots that take part in things and end up getting arrested because they didn't know how to cover their back properly (like that dude who got into Sarah Palin's Yahoo).

"You better be good on the internet kids, or Anonymous will come and hack your computers!"

If true - I'll be quite ****** off with Paypal.

I've always used it in the (poss naive) safe knowledge that its a secure means of paying online.

I would demand change if the internets no.1 secure payment site can be hacked.

BTW - Can't help but think Bruce Willis is atm back wearing his white vest fighting his way across America with a scrawy wise-cracking nerd once used by Lulz for some coding in an effort to save the country from the hacking take-down?

Does anyone check that all this released info is legit btw?

Looks to be "legit" but its a fairly limited list, it doesn't appear to be hacked from paypal itself but either the fruits of a phishing email or something along those lines.

The truth is tho no matter how secure paypal makes itself, if someone sets out to compromise their security and spends enough time and effort on it they will eventually get in. In reality tho its not that likely to happen.

I can't imagine they'd go unnoticed during such an attempt so Paypal would hopefully be able to take appropriate measures to block the attack.

All it would take is 1 leak of customer bank information and nobody would touch PayPal again with a 10ft barge pole so you'd kinda think they'd make sure they did everything possible to protect it.

All these random tweets to Lulzsec here stating they are logging in and changing details on other peoples account - Can't they be caught through an IP trace?

If they are smart they've probably compromised the password of some wifi network somewhere (or just used someones unprotected one) and sitting there in the vicinity with a laptop, they then connect to a proxy somewhere - probably round-robin style from compromised machines, then connect that proxy onto somewhere else and so on. Tho I've got a feeling the last step is a proxy on their website server or irc server which then connects to twitter.

There are ways these days tho to find these people that doesn't involve tracking back the IP step by step so I'm fairly certain that atleast some of them if they are operating inside the jurisdiction of the likes of interpol will be brought to justice, but it would seem that the ring leaders are backed by elements of the Iranian Inteligence (or a less official Iranian group) and possibly operating out of Pakistan, also indications that atleast 2 people are operating out of America, one possibly of either Pakistani or English descent.

It appears a lot of it is a backlash due to the US Securtiy Services infiltrating the Anonymous hive and identifying a large number of people operating under the "Anonymous" umbrella.

If paypal / amazon had released private information you'd of had an email from them telling you to change your password. Seeing that I haven't, I presume that they were obtained by another means.

What is going on between Lulzsec and HBGary right now?!

If I'm reading this right that Aaron Barr used the same password for his personal email, twitter, PayPal and company emails?! :D

Lets face it, Aaron clearly was never the sharpest tool in the box ;)

Yea I've been getting high quality lulz from their twitter :D

Theres no way he got the info he claimed to have from IRC, a little social networking could have produced potential data for law enforcement to match to potential targets using other methods.

Even if you did take over their botnet it would only give you pointers where else to look - you may potentially be able to intercept some of their traffic and get further passwords, etc. but they'd have to be really sloppy for it to give up anything more.

Ugh, these guys are real douchebags.

And, sadly, if they're as young as 16 years old, as reported, they're all but immune from prosecution too :/

Sucks, eh.
