Lulzsec!

or is that to much work for them.

It's to much work for them for a smaller gain.
Minecraft has exploded in popularity this last year or so, so DDoSing them is easier and will gain publicity none the less.

They will get caught but its likely that fairly innocent teenagers joining in the fun will get caught as well....I hadn't heard of LulzSec before they were on the BBC news website (maybe i should lurk moar) and I've been following there Twitter feed and site since. Just imagine how many more soldiers they have gained since then

The authorities want this to continue, it aids there plans for a two tier internet.

Now hows that for a conspiracy :)

Personally I would have thought taking down a huge company like Activision Blizzard would be a huge gain for them. That all said its not like they need it anymore. The PSN thing was a very huge win for them.

I will admit when the PSN went down I could not stop laughing I thought it was funny. I think fair play to them for showing they can get into these big companies that think they are all mighty. But small dev teams is just lame, it doesn't proove anything.

LOL

There is some half truth in there tho - the reason their twitter account, website, etc. is still active is because every time someone posts on it its more information that can be used to get deeper into their structure. Unfortunatly its likely the smaller players that are mostly gonna be caught.

Maybe they are just a bunch of nubcakes.

They came by some 0-day Apache exploit by fluke, which for our knowing could have been how they have performed all their hacks so far. After that's been patched they'll just disappear, maybe they'll have to do some DDoS attacks to remind people they still exist.

For a group who are apparently in it for the security flaws and making people aware of the risks they are pretty quite about their methods.

It would be a big gain but Activision Blizzard are a massive company and there sites and such wouldn't be down for that long. Minecraft hasn't been down for that long and they're considering it a win of some sort so just imagine how long it would take Blizzard to get there **** sorted, little to no time at all.

I also laughed when a group hacked the PSN but then I stopped once they stole people's personal details...:o

A mass DDoS doesn't take much effort for grunts to understand, infact I could probably figure out how to join in with them in about 10 minutes but like you said there isn't a point to be proven doing it to small companies.

I think they believe they're fighting for something but they're not. The people who join in are doing so because they believe to be truly safe behind their computers. It's the people pulling the strings who are more safe then the teens getting involved but these kids don't know this.

yeah botnets are the preserve of the unimaginative.

Bunch of bullied kids, getting their own back. problem is they dont realise that most the people running the businesses are also bullied kids.

Bullied kids turned virgin hackers picking on bullied kids turned company directors

Maybe they have been quiet about details because they don't want to publicise an exploit and they want devs to fix it (who perhaps already know the issue and are working on it) and are just using the hacks as a proof of concept that the exploit works and needs fixing.

People can bad mouth them and call them kiddies and such for DDoSing, but at the end of the day they have used actual security flaws that need fixing and this wouldn't even be a big issue if people wouldn't keep giong on about it, the more people cry about the hacking/DDoSing the more they will continue.

Massive assumptions and generalizations going on in this thread. How do you know they were bullied, are virgins and have no girlfriends or social skills?

the actual security flaws wouldnt need fixing if it werent for people like them though most of these flaws will have existed for ages.

its like saying we wouldnt need to worry about burglars if we had bars on all of our windows

Ah crap, i forgot I was posting on the humourless OCUK forums. Because obviously my comment was factual and 100% accurate with no effort what so ever to make a tongue in the cheek stab at the pains in the asses that are these hackers.

You make it sound like its all ok to continue hacking things because they'll stop just as soon as people stop paying attention to them...

And really? You honestly believe they've given details of the exploit to security firms and are just proving it?

Silly Eve have taken their entire network offline after our very simple DDoS attack. Oh well, another day, another lulz!
Should that not be "another day, another lul" or "another day, more lulz"?

The notion that the people behind this stupidity are "normal" people is too horrible to bear. :(

Well from the things they have been doing it seems like they are in it more for the public attention more than anything else. And hacking/DDoS goes on all the time, I just don't think lulzsec deserves any more attention than any other hacker group gets.

And you would be supprised how many exploits get given to software developers and simply ignored, lulzsec may or may not have given the details to the software devs but that doesn't mean the devs didn't already know about the exploit, and sometimes it just takes a person to take advantage of that exploit in a live environment to force the devs to take action.

If they had the best interests of company security at heart, they would have posted their exploit and how to fix it on SecurityFocus/1337day like any other respectable group.

They are in it for the E-fame and the E-peen extensions.

Well yes. That is exactly the point.

Herp derp.
