Complete photo noob here, looking to use a compact for macro (dental) photography.

The usual setup is a DSLR with 100mm lens and ring flash (although there is contention as to whether point flashes are better for some shots), with set focal points etc. This is because it’s the same shots of objects roughly the same sizes from the same positions, so pretty straightforward.

Before I dash out and buy a fancy setup, I was wondering if it is possible to set up my Panasonic Lumix TZ60 to perform a similar (albeit not quite as high quality) role? I don’t need perfection initially, just wondered if it is easy to setup the camera so I can get my eye in and see if I want to progress to a proper setup.

Whilst some recommend full setups of all the values, others just suggest using the Intelligent Auto mode and get on with it. Any thoughts?
