Has anyone got a lupo TDi Sport (The 1.4)....if so what do you think of it, how well does it go, handle, whats thre build like and do you really get anything like the quoted 64mpg combined?

I know someone who has the GTI and it's great fun to drive, and handles pretty well plus you get a pretty decent build quality too.

The diesel "sport" is probably fairly ecconomical. Though I'm never sure how they get their MPG figures, but it's not under normal driving conditions I'm sure, most probably under lab conditions or round a track at constant speed on a cold day etc...

It's probably going to be pretty comfy on long trips, and small enough to be nippy and useable in towns. I've never driven one, but have been a passenger in one - typical VW really.

It would be as a first/second car along side my impeding 4x4 purchase....i just canna resist and must have a landrover again! :p But need somthing practical to use around town and for trips here and there where economy is needed.

My brother has a Polo with that engine in it, it is quite nippy and will easily return 50-60mpg even with hard driving. For a three cylinder engine it has quite a bit of torque and sounds like a V6

If I never did motorway driving/holidays to France, I would have one of these cars (GTI) they look the nuts and are v.quick.

My other half has a Lupo Sport 1.4 (petrol)

Excellent little car, high residuals, corners well, ok performance (10 secs 0-60) extremely good build quality (really is rock solid) and fuel economy is good (although the fuel tank is very small!)

Very spacious inside too, although this is at the expense of a VERY small boot. Fun little car to drive :)

Plus the centre exhaust pipe is cool :D

I want a Lupo.

Slammed, on 8x13 Schmidt TH-Lines and 185/50 section tyres, cleaned, smoothed bonnet (to get rid of the badge cutout), badleless grille...lovely.

Not sure they make an equivelent model, but have a look at the Seat Arosa. It's the same car and you might find it more affordable.

NOOOOOOOOOOO...

when i owned a TDi Leon i had an Arosa for a morning as a courtesy car (haha) - it was horrible, badly built, tinny and the engine was dire (the 1.0 petrol) - at least the lupo is solidly built with a good VW interior and a decent Diesel engine for the one i'm considering :)

The problem with Lupo's is that the exceptional fuel economy is made largely irrelevent by the fact they are, compared to other cars, so expensive to buy.

I do not, will not and have not ever desired to have a mondeo - itll never happen! I have no objections to payig for the "right" car - afterall Landrovers are stupidly overpriced to begin with and hold their value really well....

Steady on, never even mentioned the Mondeo

Even something like a Polo would offer better value but tbh, as a VAG fan, you'd be better off with a Bora or a Toledo.

As i already have a Passat it would be pointless getting a Bora or anything else Golf sized. :)

My girlfriends got a 1 litre lupo (W) great small cars had a few problems with it .including passenger side door falling off door straps failing boot leaking and a ecu problem.

id definetly go for one though :) after a while the small boot really isnt noticible you just get more thoughtfull on where to put stuff :)

Also quite rare which is a good thing :)

So you'd pay more money for something smaller? Come on Slime you are more sensible than that, infact why not just keep the Passat? Far better than any Lupo :)
