We are looking at getting Lustrolite panels installed around our en-suite shower. We could tile for about half the price but fancy something different which stands out and is easy to maintain.

Does any one here have it or experience of fitting them?
Are there any other similar products available?

I've fitted a lot of Altro Whiterock which is the same but commercial and not really decorative, but the finish is long lasting and easily maintained and very hygienic I've put loads in hospitals.

It's just stuck too the wall and sealed in or heat bent round corners.

We have a splashwall in our bathroom, got a workmate who is a joiner to fit it as I was worried about knackering it up as the panels are expensive! Been up for a year now and still looks as good as the day it was fitted. I think it looks nicer than tiles too and we have yet to clean it other than a quick squeegee after a shower.

Top tip is don't get them delivered too early, they are huge and need to be stored flat and will warp and be unusable if you lean them up against a wall. It's a lesson I learnt the hard way.

I think it looks cheap and tacky, if I saw it I'd think "Too tight to tile it? Cheapskates"

Then again I don't do the whole contemporary design thing.

Thanks for the tip divuk.

We are tiling the floor with 60x60 sparkle granite black tiles and the walls will also be tilled. The high gloss panels are just for the 3 sides of the shower.

In terms of cost - Lustrolite panels are £300 each (2440mm x 1000mm), plus another £100 for the edge profiles, so it's not a cheaper alternative to tiling.

It's might not be cheaper (although to be fair it depends if you're going for a simple or complex design and paying a professional to do it with tiling) I'm saying it'll look cheaper. Bit of plastic glued to the walls? Must be the epitome of craftsmanship.

From the FAQ's on the website

How scratch resistant is Lustrolite?
Lustrolite has a high performance hard coat on the outer surface.
Lustrolite will not scratch, crack, warp, stain or discolor from normal residential use, and is technically rated to a surface hardness of 8H (pencil hardness).
