Unlike the MK4 and MK5, the LX15 on release is in about the same price bracket as my RX100 (on release).

I understand that the LX15 has significant feature upgrades over my original RX100 such as a 180° touchscreen, wifi enabled, 4K video etc.

The question I have though is will the LX15's day to day photos be noticeably improved over the RX100 MK1? E.g better low light etc?

Thanks!

:)

I cannot comment on the RX100 Mk1, but what I can tell you is that the MKIV is very competent. That is my best description without writing pages that are very subjective.

Since the early 1970s when I had a 35mm Zenith SLR with a standard lens and a large telephoto lens with separate light meter, I have had a plethora of cameras such as Konicas and a Canon Digital SLR with a bag of lenses. I am only a enthusiast and judge just by results.

I had a Panasonic TZ40 and ended up being given away to my son because it had a hair stuck inside. I put that down to quality control in the factory. I did not notice it until I shot several movies out of warranty, so I could not complain/send it back.

Next I had a Panasonic TZ60 and found that the quality of the lens on the outside sides of the shots was fuzzy at average zoom and then I found after several weeks in the US I found a speck of dirt in the inside of the lens. I motored the lens backwards and forwards and shook it around and eventually the speck of dirt dropped to the bottom of the camera body. When I got back to the UK after the 1 month holiday I sent it away under warranty and they cleaned it out.

In my view Panasonics quality control is not good because I have read several other bad reports about muck and dust in the cameras. I suppose it is the same for many mass produced cameras. Anyway in the end because the quality was nowhere what I expected, I sold it on ebay for £140. It was nearly 3 years old by then.

I now have the Sony RX100 MKIV and the low light quality is excellent. I do not see the non touch screen as a negative, although you have to be careful with large fingers. It is very simple to use with the button/menu system. The 4k video is great (only tested a few shots) although it is said that you can only do 4 minute shots in one go and then have to wait. If I was doing more than that, I would buy a video camera for that purpose.

I wanted a compact camera that gives more or less what the average user would expect from Digital SLR. That is what I have now got without lugging a large camera bag around.

Specs wise the LX10 seems better than the RX100 in every way. It looks at good match for the RX100 IV if you can live without a viewfinder. Better low light capabilities ISO and F-stop, same wide angle but with an 2mm equiv. on the telephoto end.

It can also focus closer and has twice the number of AF points.

I've got an IV and I don't use the viewfinder that often. I do use the ND filter which the LX10 doesn't have.

I would also imagine being a Fuji, it's not as frustrating to use as RX100. Sony love to produce great hardware then do their best to try an ruin it with software.

Yes I could definitely live without the viewfinder as I've had my RX100 4 years and it's never been an issue.

For the price bracket the LX15 is in (£540 as a new Very customer 10% discount) I'd only be looking at a RX100MK3 for that money.

Tbh even though I'll use it for snapping away on any trips, it's mainly going to be used for photos of our son and selfie style group photos haha (180 touchscreen).

Just had a look at the focus stacking and that looks pretty cool. Never edited a photo on the PC in my life but can defo imagine quickly messing with the focus when bored going through the photos (on the camera) on the bus, plane, train etc.

Yeah I'm sold loads of tech feature upgrades over my RX100 M1 and better pictures :)

I'll take what gunrunner has said about QC and maybe just get a 4 year warranty as it'll still come in cheaper than the RX100M4 and miles cheaper than the M5.

In which case I'd go the LX15. It will be a huge upgrade from the original RX100. 24mm at the wide end is massive compared to 28mm, and the 1.4 will be handy for low light, and shallow dof.

It's got double the focus points and should have a slightly faster AF system. Handy when taking pictures of kids.
