Lycamobile - What Phones for 5G?

How is Lyca? I'm on BT sim only contract at the moment that isn't particularly competitive but is loads better than the EE contracts they keep trying to push me to.

I can't move away from the EE network, and Lyca seems to be the best MVNO left? I don't care about 5g.

I've had the issue getting 5G but that seems to be ok now. I had issues receiving texts as well. I think this may have been linked with the 5G issue because after an update and phone restart, *touch wood* it seems ok.

The issue with texts was when a code was sent from logging into to something online and it could take a couple of hours to receive it instead of a few seconds.

Those issues seem resolved and everything else seems to be ok and working well :)

I just had my number ported from EE to Lycamobile (massive reduction in bill).

So basically you've stayed with EE but through Lyca?

Which provider does Lyca Mobile use?
Lyca Mobile now uses EE's network to deliver 4G coverage to 99% of the UK population and 5G in over 1,000 towns and cities.

I suppose I'm not surprised that EE give one of their suppliers less features.
Back in 2021 I went on a new EE contract only to find out that my 5G was locked to 30mbps so I transferred to Smarty (Three).

Last year I wanted a PAYG backup Sim so opted for 1p Mobile

Although 1p Mobile uses EE's network, don't expect EE's super-fast service. These are typically reserved for EE customers only. It should still be pretty good though, certainly on a par with other networks that piggyback off EE, such as Plusnet and Virgin Mobile.

Yes, purely to save money.

I've found my speed staying the same. I refused to pay EE more for having unrestricted speed. They have three tiers now - 10Mb, 100Mb and unlimited.

been with lyca past 6 months cant fault it before with vodafone / 02 / three in shops / supermarkets I used to lose signal or no internet no issues now with Lyca , speedtest showing 200-300mb down , oh yeah and can cancel anytime

I just checked and did the update and I now have 5G as well! Saved loads of hassle and getting a new phone. Thank you :)

Thank you again to everyone :)
Hi,

I wondered how people are getting on with this, especially on Pixel devices please? I have a Pixel 4a 5G. It did show 5G signal earlier in the year (had to change the APN to data.lycamobile.co.uk to get it working). Now it's gone again! Lyca CS say that, "there is a known issue with no 5G in all areas", but I think they are just saying that to keep me quiet. I would love to hear if it's still working for you guys. Thank you

I had to ditch Lyca as I wasn't receiving calls. Turns out they use 2G for calls and the P7 Pro I had couldn't use 2G.

I tried Spusu with the Pixel 4a 5G but again, like Lyca, 5G wasn't provisioned so I cancelled. I suspect 1p Mobile might be the same (has anyone had any experience of them with a Pixel phone?) so I wanted to avoid EE MVNOs, at least for now.

Just tried Spusu and 1p on iphone and get 5G

ive read about the Pixels being an issue, maybe time to upgrade? :)

Eep, hadn't heard of this. I've just started to make the jump back to Lebara. Going to take the PAC, run and never come back this time!
I've been with Lebara before, very good. Even managed to get everything working with Pixel via a bit of tweaking. I've also decided to get my PAC and go back to Lebara. There are some great deals on MoneySupermarket at the moment.
