So am i right in what i read on the spec sheet that when you use the 1x M.2 slot it will disable all the 1x? Is M.2 just a re-route of that bandwidth? Because i am on Z87 and if this is the case i am better off as i need my 2x PCIE 1x slots.

Not sure about the M.2 but on Asus boards the M-SATA port takes up one of the Sata ports (Port 5) I think.

Just checked the spec of your board and it doesn't have a M.2 port. Do you mean the PCIe cards with the M.2 card fitted? (Such as the Plextor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-009-PL&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=2198) As they take up the physical PCIe port. I am also not 100% but could have sworn that they require a 4xPCIe slot available for bandwidth.
Nah boards like extreme 6 have one m.2 slot for drives that uses it i am not sure how they work but it is 1GB sec nearly twice the Sata 6 bandwidth. But from the motherboards it seems that it only works if you give up the pcie 1x slots.
