Not a big issue but puzzling all the same.

When I recently installed my M.2 drive, I had to rummage through my model helicopter spares to find a suitable screw.

My motherboard has a mounting post but no screw. I still have my motherboard box with all the unused accessories and was expecting to find the screw in there - nope, plenty of other screws and posts but no M.2 screw. Imagining I had lost it I checked with my son as he has just removed a motherboard with the same posts. Again, no screws in the posts and none in his motherboard box either.

It is possible that we both lost the M.2 screws but kept all the other unused accessories, but unlikely.

So, my question, if the mounting screws don't come with the motherboard, or the M.2 drives where are you meant to get them from?

Not a big deal, but strange all the same.

I got a pack of 4 for a couple of quid off eBay a while back (they are 3mm).

Always useful to have some spare as they are tiny and easily lost.
Same.

Strange you didn’t have any, often the NVME comes with one and the ‘board usually has at least as many as it has NVME slots. Some boards don’t need screws these days as well, they have retention clips.

FYI: they can be attached to or inside the manual, or in the bag of something else. I've also had boards where they were already screwed in, just in a different place.

Hmm would have thought they ought to be already on the board they tend to be the quick release types you turn a little lever and it secures the drive without needing a screwdriver rather than an actual screw though I have one of those too as I managed to lose one of the motherboard originals

I have a tin full of old screws and bits of fixings for PC's very handy when you're missing a few whenever I dismantle an old PC I keep any interesting or potentially handy screws if I'm chucking out the case

For reference I'm pretty certain m.2 mounting screws are actually M2x2.5 with a 0.4mm thread pitch.

I've seen some come in 3mm length, but I'd argue the clues in the name for the diameter and measurement system
