M.2 questions

Well we need to know which motherboard you have first, but from the sounds of things, is it an Asus? Generally one is linked to the CPU directly while the other goes through the chipset. Depending on which motherboard it is either both are PCIe gen 4 or the CPU controlled one is gen 4 while the chipset controlled is gen 3.

According to the manual for that board all M.2 slots on the motherboard are CPU controlled, while the DIMM.2 is chipset controlled. Speed wise should be no difference, however bare in mind having a drive in the second or third motherboard slot will force the GPU into x8 mode, and using the DIMM.2 slot may starve the drive as it runs in x2 mode instead of x4 if you fill both slots on the add-on card.

I would say stick with the motherboard slots as it's a direct connection to the CPU so should offer better latency.

ok thanks the 2nd and rd3 slot put only the 2 pcie in to 8x speed and and the first m.2 put the 1st pce in to 8x speed dont it? thats how i read it on manual

dam i just 2 m2 drives one for games and one for os

would getting a
M.2 Expansion Card get around the drop in pcie lane as the add on thing that comes with is abit close to cpu fan or would it not work as one as conecting it to m.2 on mb?
 
Getting a PCIe to M.2 card will drop the first PCIe slot to x8.

Honestly the best option is to get the DIMM.2 adapter to use the slot by the RAM slots if you want to keep the GPU at x16.
