I have been gandering all over the internet at good M.2s, but there are so many mixed reviews it's unreal.

I get most will never hit their peak read and write speeds, it's just advertising, much like getting 1tb... but only having 960gb. Thing is, I'm not buying atm I'm just trying to understand what is actually good for what. I'm aware there's 3 or 4 versions of NAND with varying life and speed capacity which also affects cost. though off the top of my head I forget with is all around the best.

Basically, I have a gaming laptop with a spare M.2 slot. I'm looking at a performance drive 1-2tb that has a long life but good speeds. I keep looking at the 970 evo plus as that's meant to be amazing.

What do people here recommend and why?
Please and thanks.

@mickyflinn I think it's only PCIE3 for the onboard M2, the 4 is built-in around the graphics I think.

The bit that throws me off is I was some reviews saying some are terrible for gaming and cause a lot of stuttering, I mean I don't mind getting what I pay for so to speak. I am kinda averse to getting a drive... that then makes things lag or dies quickly. How are the 550 for longevity? Also, thank you for replying.

That's not bad at all really, and general gaming shouldn't see it do it's rewrite limits either.
Do you have to use manufacturer software? like I've used Samsung's magician and that's pretty sweet, but I have heard bad things about WD's, forced advertising and can me a bit lumpy?
