m.2 USB adaptor

Good morning all.
Are m.2 to USB adaptor's Nvme Compatible? My itx system as only 1 m.2 and i have 1tb in there but i'm wanting to switch it to a 2tb.
i'm wanting to know if i can use the USB this to clone the drive over

It depends entirely on the adapter - earlier (and cheaper ones were designed for the older M.2 form factor Sata AHCI drives). You ideally need an adapter that specifies that it is NVMe compatible.

Another indication can be that of the M.2 Socket keying. Older SATA compatible adapters would general use the B or B+M keying, whereas most NVMe compatible adapters will be keyed for M only.
