Hi looking for some advice, need an external enclosure for m.2 drives but need one i can swap drives in and out without problems, don't want any glue or sticky substance stuck to the drive permanently from the enclosure, need to be able to swap drives without damaging them.thanks.

Do you actually need an enclosure or just a way of easily swapping between M.2 SSDs? If you look a little further than OcUK you can find NVMe docks that might do what you need.

thanks for the replies had a look at the m.2 docks and they look good but based on reviews they can be quite flimsy because the drive has not protection so can be knocked and banged and damaged and i tend to be quite clumsy so will have to look at enclosures that won't damage the drive and i can swap easily.

I've got one of these, it's a doddle to use and just uses a latch to secure the drive. The only minor annoyance is that the USB cable isn't that long.

Sabrent do one, I’ve got 3 of them and they’re a doddle to use. Button to open it up on one end and a rotating plastic clip holds the drive in place or releases it.

The most reliable enclosure I've had so far is this Orico M.2 enclosure. Unlike my other enclosure, which is this Sabrent, cables don't seem to slide out as easily.

These are the ones I’ve had, got 2 plugged in as extra storage for Xbox and the other for external backup which gets a lot of use, not had any trouble thus far after 2-3 years

I’ve used an Acasis TBU405Pro (with cooling fan) all this year. Absolutely no problems with it and get read/write speeds of 2500-3000+ when connected to my MacBook TB4 or desktop USB4. You simply slide the lid off and pop out the drive after removing the little retaining rubber peg. I’ve not used any cooling pads on the drives and not had any issues with overheating or throttling.

The edge connectors on m.2 drives aren't robust, just FYI.

I'd be very careful when removing, and store them safely. Personal preference would be ESD foam and a case that compresses sufficiently to prevent movement without force.
