Hi alli have an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.

I was looking into a M2 drive, and didn't realize that there are 2 versions. (Luckily I didn't buy one yet).

So it looks like I have an M2 SATA connection.

So my question are they better than standard SATA drives.

Specs say it supports PCIe 3.0 on the M.2 slot which would be expected on a board of that generation.

If it is actually M.2 SATA only then it's no better than a standard SATA drive from a performance point-of-view.

The B450 Tomahawk Max uses PCI-E 3.0 X4 (NVME) as bremen1874 says for the M.2. It disables SATA ports 5&6 when installed though, but you'll still have SATA ports 1-4 to use.
