One day I'm going to change my car for something quicker (Currently drive a E36 328 sport). The M3 seems an obvious step up, but I'm also interested in the 350Z as an alternative.

From reading up on both, it seems that to mod them power wise costs A LOT of money and isn't terribly reliable, so thats probably out.

In terms of standard performance, there isn't a great deal in it but the M3 seems to be slightly quicker.

What thinks Ocuk?

I will always say M3 every single time. I think the 350Z is a great car though, but having owned a 330Ci I can say that it was such a pleasure to drive, I can only imagine what everyday ownership of an M3 must feel like.

However, there are several turbo kits and supercharger kits you can buy that can up the power on the 350Z to anything from 350bhp to over 500bhp.

Drive them both and go with your heart. Asking for opinion on such cars is an utter waste of time really as you will have 2 camps both of who will try and convince you their car is best.

Both great cars, drive em, buy one.

From a completely personal point of view: the 350Z. Ideally the Nismo kitted one you have posted :).

ditto - but i'm sure there are a hell of a lot of beemer lovers who will totally disagree for allot of reasons - i would imagine the nissan would be a cheaper to buy and run though, although i imagine the depriciation would be higher....

On one hand you have an obviously sporty small nimble sports car.

On the other hand you have a large stealthier bahn barge.

I'd got for the 350z for the fun appeal of it, funkier than the M3. but I'd get the stick on spoilers smoothed in, I hate those overlapped crease lines there their stuck on.

The 350z looks ok but when Ive seen them up close it looks like its wearing a pair of high waisted trousers - the bumpers are stupidly big. Whereas the bmw always looks understated and good looking in whichever setting. I'm sure neither is perfect but I went right off the 350z :|
I'd have the m3, I doubt they compare when driving but you have to check that yourself

Similar weights arent they

Another look at that picture of the 350z makes me want that exact car with that exact bodykit.

How much we talking for that beast?

EDIT: THAT AERIAL!!! WHAT'S IT DOING THERE?!

350Z just because its been a goal of mine to own one since I first sat in the Nismo one at Goodwood in 2003. I think it looks and sounds just awesome and it has always been very well regarded by the motoring press.

I will hopefully have one soon and that very one tempted me greatly, but such things as having a baby boy and buying a bigger house had to take preference!

One day, one day :)

I've always been a huge fan of BMW's M-series. The combination of looks and "somewhat" practical use has always appealed to me... The engine is also amazing :D . I don't really like the 350z japanese look, but I haven't driven one so I can't really tell which one is the better car.

That picture doesnt do the M3 justice really. As with the most modern bimmers i think you have to see one to see how much pressance they have. For the engine and the noise i would take the M3 but i realllllllllllllly like that 350z and think they are quite understated for what they are.

Im a bimmer fanboy and even i find it hard to pick. Drive them both on the limit and see how they feel. I can imagine the 350's engine being a bit quieter when not "making progress".
