M4 SSD - Not visible on boot

Hey folks,

So the other night i was playing Hitman Absolution and it froze. I was then hit with BSOD 2067.

PC went to reboot but the SSD was not detected. On loading the bios setup I could not see the SSD on the boot priority list.

Strangely when i go into boot override options the SSD is there so i can boot up the computer.

At the moment this means i need to manually override the boot options to get it to boot.

I've tried the following:

New SATA cable
Different SATA port
Updated firmware

Still no joy on normal boot. I built the computer last year, SSD is roughly 1 1/2 years old transferred over from my previous build with a fresh install of win 7.

Any help out there?

Cheers,

new bios battery???
update bios

not sure about blue screen though, need a crash dump for that

Not entirely consistent with the symptoms but make sure you have updated the firmware on the SSD.

There was a bug in the M4 firmware which caused problems after ~5,000 hours total use.

Here's the thread: M4 SSD 5200 hour timebomb

We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition.

Look on Crucial's site for the latest firmware.

Hey guys, thanks for reply.

I updated bios the other day and the intel sata drivers.

Didn't fix it but after fiddling with the AHCI and legacy/UEFI settings it just re-appeared in the boot options.

Not entirely sure what it reappeared but is working again.

Had already updated the firmware.

Will wait and see if it vanished again

Cheers

I have had literally the exact same problem. My M4 is not recognised at boot up so wont load. If I F12 during boot I can go into the boot menu and there it is and boots fine.

My M4 is now not being recognized on 1st boot too, I now have to reboot & hit F12 & select it in the boot menu.
Its almost as though it has to boot up itself & it takes longer to do so than the board. Its only been doing this since I had to reinstall W8 last week, after the bootloader decided to corrupt itself & I tried to fix it to no avail.
I think the heat as affected it somehow. Updating the bios to the latest has solved nothing either.
I can't RMA it as it works fine apart from the above problem. I can live with hitting F12 with each bootup but that is besides the point, I shouldn't have to.

Thoughts?

reinstall is the safe bet with ssd only in the machine.
heat should be no issue for the ssd.
no issue with mine either with w8 or haswell.

change the cable to the ssd is what I would test.

I've had a couple of problems like this with latest firmware but also with a faulty boot sector. Putting Windows 8 into repair mode fixed it.
