M4 Vs. Samsung 830 Vs. OCZ Vector

from research the 830>M4.
I know the 830 has been discontinued however i still can get my hands on it. I also know the crisis with the ocz vertex 4 however the ocz vector has gone through very thorough testing so i'm not worried about ocz's reliability problems in the past.

Now the question is; How much better is the Vector compared to the samsung 830 and is an extra £50 justified?

I will be using this drive very heavily and will be storing my OS, work & games & programmes on it.

Thus why i'm inclined in getting the top spec SSD.

Note: i will be using 2 other old SSD's for storing temprary files and pagefile to minimise degradation.

I would put reliability above performance with an SSD, since they all perform so closely anyway in terms of speed. Define speed anyway. Speed perceived from an SSD is nearly always the fact that it is simply an SSD by nature, and hence has very fast random reads of OS files that give that snappy feel. Don't become bogged down in sequential read/write performance charts that will mean very little. I'd avoid OCZ personally and would never buy an SSD from them. I speicifcally go with M4's or 830's for builds I do simply because they are reliable.
 
I have a Samsung 830 256Gb and an M4 128Gb and have been very pleased with both. There is no noticeable difference in performance.
 
Vector doesn't use a sandforce controller :)

I dislike how samsung release a 840 at the same price as the 830 but far worse, I haven't touched samsung products before and I'll continue not to.

I've decided to get 2 vectors, one for desktop & one for laptop.

Vortex 4 was a mess.
830 & M4 are outdated.
840 pro is on par with vector IRT use but uses a sandforce controller.

Honestly i can see the vector been most reliable out all of them but there we go.

I took these benchmarks after installing the my usual things like steam and wheel drivers ect.
Using sig rig and intel 6gbs ports

Between 2 vectors non raid when transfering a steam game i get around 400mb give or take abit.

Historiaclly they were one of the very first SSDsa for consumers and they had a few problems especially with the Sandforce controllers.
Not such an issue now - but the doubts linger.

From my limited research on the vortex 4, many people suggested that ocz released vortex 4 far too early without proper testing due to money problems which gave ocz very bad reputation on that issue alone.

OCZ learn't from there mistakes with the vector ssd which has had very thorough testing.

100% rubbish.

The OCZ Vertex 4 was a completely new drive on a new hybrid controller. This was OCZ's turning point and it has had zero hardware/firmware problems. The Vector is the next step forward, now that OCZ have finalised their own controller.

People assume because OCZ was first with SandForce SSD's, all the problems were their fault :mad:

yea thats true.. I know where you're coming from and I've been there. Those issues were fixed with firmware updates. Here's a personal opinion.. I am using sandforce based ssds and they are rock solid.
 
Guys? Just realised my laptop only has a sata 2 controller. Many People have claimed that sata 3 is a marketing scheme and sata 3 ssd's preformance will not be saturated?

I'm yet to find any real proof of this, can anyone confirm this or should i just get a cheap m4 as it's for a laptop.

Still getting vector for desktop pc though

Yep. Just sold my Vertex 2 here after >18mths hassle-free running.

I can only speak from personal experience, but I really noticed the step up from a Sata2 Vertex to a Sata3 M4. Felt much faster, especially on boot.
