Just a word of heads up, there are two new GATSO's (one southbound, one northbound) between J16 and J15 on the M6, right near Keele Services. They aren't active yet (still have protective covers on them), and I suspect that they are going to be for forthcoming roadworks (an alarming number of cones seem to be accumilating near the central reservation, over the last week).

So, keep an eye out everyone that uses the M6 at this point, as they could go live at any time.

Cheers for the heads up, that stretch of the motorway is just a bloody nightmare all the way upto manchester, it was worse when they were still working on thelwell viaduct:(

same between junction 12 and 13... they look like they may be the interdistant ones

theres also a sign up saying theres road works for a good few weeks starting on the 17th of this month

Damn, was hoping the rest of the M6 was clear, as I have to go to Newbury next month :(

So you think those are going to be SPECS? Are they blue poles with yellow camera's (with what look like three lenses) on them?

Great :(

yep, interdistant blue pole with 3 lense yellow cameras :) figure that might well be what the roadworks are there for... the poles are there but no cameras at the moment

just a 40mph speed restriction, i joined at 13 and went off at 12 but it goes down further

Phew i only get on at JCT 21 thankfully, one thing i keep seeing on the end of slip roads are part-time signal signs and somethings that are under cover surely not traffic lights are there.

Hmm, since the latest craze is to put specs up in roadworks, just thinking about the M1 roadworks from J6a to J10 thats going to start. I know from having to go through the M11 ones that everyone poodles through at 30-35 as they don't want them going off.

there's been specs poles (without cameras) at a few points on the M6 for a good while now, think i posted about it last summer (more at frostie than paradigm, not seen any that high up), i think they're just so they dont have to put new poles in while they do brief roadworks, the only time they can justify cameras on motorways is when there's roadworks, so i'd expect there to be some soon, or they're just preparing in advance

Yeah, there's traffic lights installed on loads of junctions of the M6 and M60. The idea is it'll break up the flow of traffic onto the motorway into chunks rather than a constant flow of people trying to get on. Be interesting to see how well it works.

God damn it!!

Junction 15-17 are the only ones I use coming home from uni :(

So these are cameras that measure your average speed over a certain distance?

I get sick of the traffic slowing down so much in that area as it is through people going slow, now its going to happen regularly when idiots slam their brakes on for cameras....

i cant believe they put scameras on the motorway, outside schools, in towns etc yes but on a motorway?

proof they are just there to generate funds.

Yes absolutely on the Motorways, in the correct conditions.

The "scameras" are there for the duration of the roadworks, to protect the workforce. Raising funds is NOT the issue, there there to slow drivers down and save lives.

A very good friend of mine was killed a few years ago near Keele Services, he was a roadworker, laying out cones. :(

Heed the speed restrictions, remember they measure your average speed (so slowing up by the specs still catches you out) chill out and you'll soon be past them.

Or, find another route.

Not hard, but safe and backed up by the law.. ;)

No, J15>16 is only fixed gatso cameras, not average speed ones.

Yep I just noticed then, hence my edit ;)

I won't be speeding anyway, the box in this car is 3000rpm at 60mph in 4th, so I'll probably be sitting around 65.

I went down to Walsall at the weekend (J15 to J12) and it was 40 all the way with the roadworks. Coming back took....2.5 hours. Because there were quite a few people rear ending each other in the rain and generally looking at the car in front. Then when one car crashed it all slowed down to stop start because people slow down to look at it.

Oh well.

M1 , J10 to J6a is a 40 MPH limit and according to local radio it will be a SPECS based system from beginning to end.

It's a good idea to protect the workforce but it will still be active at night.....
