No, the M6 remains the M6. If you get onto the M6T at Junction T1 then you get on the Toll Road.

Police are now clamping down on speeders on it though, so its no longer the 120MPH playground it once was. If you aren't hitting Birmingham during rush hour or a busy period (Bank Holiday Weekend etc) then its not worth using, however during peak times its a godsend!

you have to physicaly turn off the motorway going north to stay on m6 but if you stay in fast lane you end up on m6 toll

:confused: im prety sure about it

on a side note i worked for a rich farmer/land owner from sutton colfieild (sp?) after xmas.

he had too sons who drove the forklift for us (im a joiner)

his dad had a ferrari 575 and let his younger 22 year old son do 190mph on the toll road whilst he sat beside him so they tell me

i did see the ferrari and his bentley gt

nice work if you can get it ;)

If you're going off-peak then no point taking the toll road. If you're hitting Birmingham at rush hour then as said previously its probably worth it - just be prepared to queue (they really need more manned booths tbh) at the tolls and as you rejoin the M6. Still save time overall though.

Only thing its good for is a blat from 0-100 out of the toll road booth and thats it.

Ive used it once or twice but every other time ive just used the normal motorway and never got stuck in traffic.

I went on the M6 toll road once and haven't bothered since.

I drove up from London to Manchester this morning going though Birmingham just after 9am and other than one patch of traffic it was fine.
I always find the M6 north of Birmingham worse than going through the patch where the toll road is.

I've taken the M6 toll a couple of times going between Cambridge and Fleetwood and its well worth it, more comfortable drive and a couple of nice services

i just came from telford to huddersfield and spent a freaking hour sat on the M6 grr

i should have learnt my lesson from last week, i set off later as well :(

Depending on which part of London you are going to, I would recommend

M6 --> M6 Toll --> M6
East/South East --> A14 --> M11 --> North Circular
Centre/West --> M40 --> A40

I always use the toll road as it just saves so much hassle. Just remember to bypass the M25 when you get near London.

120mph playground? hehe think not... was playing with a jag the entire length, used about a quarter of a tank of fuel :o

if its busy, is well worth it, but for £4 on a journey that length the cost is pretty insignificant when compared to the cost of fuel, so if you think it worth it then it wont hurt much...

But wast london i'd reccomend M40 too...

Never taken the toll road and I've never been held up on the m6. But for a few quid you might as well, it just depends how much of a cheap skate you are and what time of day your travelling.

Do it.

The road must be one of the few the UK has actually built properly.

Futhermore, if you have inside knowledge (cough cough), then you can avoid getting nabbed by the polis.

yup, youre right

I live in Rugeley and Work in Stafford.

In order to avoid the toll road, you either need to get on at the bottom end of Cannock or the top end, the Toll Road is in between 12 and 11.
