i have just ordered a new system and wasnt really thinking about what i was doing . i have just ordered a Corsair TX 650W ATX too run the desktop with only running 1 ati hd 5850 but i was going too get a second one as well. would 650w be enough too run 2 x hd 5850 or have i just made a stupid mistake and ordered the wronge one ?

it should be fine, i think most of us are a little caught up in psu power. Although if it was me there would always be thought little niggle of doubt if you have just put the order in call up go for some overkill lol ;)

According to this chart on anandtech 5850Cf uses 550W so should be ok, however once you start OCing system power draw goes up, therefore if it hasnt already been shipped get in touch and see if you can up to a 750W just for that peace of mind

I run a overclocked i7 with 4870x2 which at full load pulls 530w, the 5850 crossfire pulls slightly less.

Well my Q9300 OC'd to 3.4Ghz 2 sticks of DDR3 Ram, 3 HDD's and a 5870 reaches soemthing like 450w AC max.
I think it should be fine but personally i would get a 750.
