Mac keyboard in a pc?

I really don't get that.

Plug in a mouse with two buttons, there's your right click. I use my MX1000 and all the buttons work as they should.

Macs don't even come with one button mice anymore.

And besides, even if you have one button, ctrl+click = right click.

Every single Mac I have ever seen only have a 1 click mouse! ctrl+click simply is nowhere near as easy. At any rate it doesnt really matter.

The mighty mouse has two buttons it just looks like it has one :p

I would not buy it anyway as it's a crap mouse.

Yep it will be USB.

Do any of you guys like the mac keyboards?

TBH no. Mine ended up as pretty much a tray full of dust. Also a £15 Microsoft device has proven to be much more comfortable over time.

And yes, the Mighty Mouse is a shocking waste of £35.

That keyboard looks rather like some of the new Dell ones or probably the new Dell ones look like that one. The action on the Dells was pretty decent but I have no idea if you can buy them separately from a new system. :)

When I said before that I found Macs rather limited, I haven't used one properly (aside from a bit of web browsing on a mates iBook) since I was in high school which is around 6-7 years ago and OS 9? Some of the problem might have been due to the school locking them down (although given the IT department was run by a couple of chimps I doubt it) but I felt like there were too many things being 'hidden' away from me so I couldn't always use functions that I might have wanted to, I tend to dislike Microsoft OSes newer than Win 98 for the same reason, they are removing or hiding things that you used to have free access to. I'm sure it saves a lot of problems but I liked Win 98 for the fact that it was relatively stable and went to work with the solid understanding that you knew what you were doing so you had access to almost anything or you could stuff it up big-style. I'm aware I'm probably in a minority here and I do use XP simply because it is still updated and more stable on a day to day basis but I can't help missing Win 98 occasionally.

but alas my experince is with random or generic hardware my mates/family have bought from Lidl.

Lol, fair enough! Well just for the record I've never had a problems with mine. The only thing that mildly annoys me is that fact that I can't use it before windows loads up, ie. in bios, but hey I can live with that!

I use a mac keyboard with my PC, the white one thats current. I use a app called appleK pro. It lets you use all the media keys ie. you can eject the CD trays. Normal press for the top tray, CTR+eject for the lower CD. works great.

You can also remap a Print Screen key using 'sharp keys'. Just google it.

I can't imagine why you'd choose to use a Mac keyboard unless you have small-ish hands. Mine aren't small (I can get within half a centimetre of both ctrl keys with one hand on a standard MS one) and using Mac keyboard is just awkward.

I love the feel of a Apple keyboard, its also cute how small it is. :P I reckon its one of the best keyboards I've ever used. So quiet and spongy, I use to love Logitech keyboards but I swear by Apple keyboards now.

I'd say if anything is awkward is when you're not use to something. After you give yourself time to adjust you think nothing of it.

Yup had Apple keyboard on XP for 2 years, works a treat, just picks it up no problem and all the functions work such as the volume keys and mute key above the Num Pad. The only key that doesn't work is the eject key but who cares? Definately a good purchase, shame OcUK have stopped selling them.

I think the guy just wanted to know if it works with a PC. Not a why bother story!

lol I know, I dont mind its quite interesting!

I just received my apple keyboard today, absolutely no problem - it works out of the box.:) And as for the the 'big hands problem' the keys/key area are exactly the same size as a standard keyboard. It looks good too:)

I'll try to get the eject button/setup a print screen now.

I use a Mac keyboard under XP and over time I've noticed that some of the keys need pressing twice to register, it might just be down to gunk underneath them but it's getting annoying.

Applekeys2 will turn your F13 key into a print screen key.

That works a treat. Brilliant :)

Is there soemthing similar that can be used to get the volume & eject buttons on a Mac keyboard working in XP?

The volume keys (up/down/mute) already work on mine, you don't need Applekeys for that either, mine just auto-installed the driver and they worked. Not sure about the eject key.

Actually the only key I was really concerned about was the print screen key, which I seem to use quite a lot. As for scroll lock & pause break ..... I've no idea what those buttons or even for! I've never had a cause to use them before as far as I can remember!

At the moment I'm more concerned about my PC not booting unless I have the PS2 keyboard attached. I can't find anything in my BIOS relating to USB keyboard support. There's something called 'USB controller' but this is already enabled. Curiously USB mouse support is disabled yet I've used a wireless USB mouse for the last 6 months or so! I've even tried plugging my USB Mac keyboard into a PS2 converter but this didn't make any difference - still needed the PC PS2 keyboard to avoid the 'no keyboard attached' warning at boot up. Once into Windows though the Mac keyboard works fine (and is the best feeling keyboard I've ever used).
