I've always wondered this. Is it right that when you are using the British keyboard layout, the " and @ symbols are in the same place they would be with the US layout?

Like anyone coming from PCs, I'm used to the " being above the 2, and the @ being to the left of Enter. But in OSX it's the other way around.

Is this right and if so, is there a way to change it? Or do I just have to get used to it.

On a standard Apple keyboard the @ is above the 2 and the " is above the '. I'm sure there's some way to change it though if you can't get used to it.

I hated it at first and then realised how often I type " compared to @, and how much easier it is to enter a " when it's next to the shift key.

Create the file ~/Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict and Google for how to add custom binds to it.

You can download a free program to change it. I read about it last night. As well as a plethora of other fantastic programs available free for Mac OSX only. I can't remember it's name though.

It's better this way anyway. You don't use the @ sign as much and makes more sense to have " near the other punctuation than with the symbols. Takes a bit of getting used to.

Mind if I ask why your using a mac? Is it a work thing?

We'll turn you yet!!

I don't have a problem with it being either way around but it's sometimes a bit of a pain when switching between a PC and a Mac constantly.

Erm I'll have to take the 5th on that, because of forum rules but use your imagination :)

Turn me into someone who uses OSX occasionally for a change of scenery, yes - but not for my main OS. Every time I use OSX it just reinforces to me how much better Windows is :(

One area in which it is better than Windows, it boots in a flash and apps load in a flash as well. Other than that, erm... :)

Bootcamp ;)

I use OS X for many things, reminding me how good Windows was isn't one of them. The only times I've been annoyed are more down to the hardware (having to buy a ton of adaptors for my MacBook for various types of video output) than the OS.
