mac keyboards... the @'s in the wrong place!

the @ above the 2 feels much more natural...

how do you think I feel though, I use a windows based machine all day at work and a Mac Pro at home, and at work nobody has permissions to change the keyboard layout, so I can't change it to american.

Bah Humbug :p

Same here at college, I'm always smashing " hoping for it to be @. :(

how is option option + 3 any different to shift + 3 or whatever the uk equivalent is? if anything its easier to type as my fingers are generally near the apple key etc

on the pc the # isn't shift+3, it has its own button and when coding css and the like, its in a very convenient place just above shift...

saying that i dont think it being hidden at option+3 is much of an issue, but it sure as hell has more right to its own button than § :p

but credit where credits due, i use a bullet point all the time and it was great to see mac had put one at opt+8 :) i was used to pressing alt+0149 on the pc :p

This is something that genuinely puts me off buying an Apple keyboard - and in fact a Mac generally, since it would come with one. Why give us a rubbish US style keyboard? It's just silly, we're in Britain and we want a British keyboard. I don't understand why Apple don't understand that! The reason the # key is so hidden is that it's shift+3 in the US - but this is replaced with £ so it has to be hidden away even further. This just doesn't make sense. I want my " and @ in the right places too!

seriously dude, don't let this minor detail put you off buying a mac! thats like saying you wouldn't buy a ferrari cuz the key fob is a funny shape!

i had mine for 1 day before i killed it  - and all yesterday i was back working on the pc and immediately i was missing exposé and quicksilver :D the mac os really does thrash the pants of windows, it really really does...

if you're in the mac hardware forum matey, you're obviously considering getting one, so my advice? go for it and don't hold back! ;)

I just use a PC keyboard with my Mac and all my @ and # woes went away! Also I was able to get a wireless keyboard and mouse for a lot less than the Apple one, plus I hate the mighty mouse, so unergonomic.

It makes a lot more sense to have the " above the ' if you think about it.

meh, I just got used to it.
