I'm used to a mac pro but i am getting a new mac mini for a small business.

I don't agree with sticking to the base units 2gb so have ordered 4gb more.

Do you think it safe to use one of the 1GB sticks with the 4GB so it has 5GB or will that effect performance drastically? I can not find any data on dual channel but presume it is.

Having in mind its a business machine.

As a general rule, mixing different types of memory like this is not advisable. I would suggest matching your existing memory exactly.

My opinion and what I believe.

I would just stick the new 4GB module in there, and flog the old 2x1GB set. That way, if you do need to increase the RAM in the future, there's a slot already free for another 4GB stick.

The memory would be exactly the same memory just different capacitys or do you mean different capacitys?
