Im really liking the new spec mac mini and would like the idea of connecting it to my HDTV and using front row but i have some quick quesitons id like to ask.....

-Can it run OSX and XP together and i simply switch to and from whenever i like ?
-Is XP running on a mac stable ?
-I only have XP on my laptop, so would i need to buy a brand new copy
-Should i ditch XP and try Vista on it, or is this not possible yet?
-Would VGA give decent resolution ? Or is there a better way to connect to a HDTV ? (Samsung R72 tv)

Thanks for any help, looking forward to your answers.

sort of, you can run windows either natively or in parallels
-Is XP running on a mac stable ?
pretty stable

technically yes

not worth it, osx does all you need with xp in parallels doing some windows software and xp on bootcamp for games (if the graphics dont hold it back too much!)

if you look on the apple site you'll see it does give a decent res but it isn't a high ppowered card so the higher the res the slower it'll be. not sure about hdtv though

Thanks for any help, looking forward to your answers.

If by simply switch you mean reboot, then yes.

XP is as stable as it would be running on any other hardware.

Yes, you need a "new" copy. If XP, service pack 2.

Yes it is possible, I'm doing it right now. Should you? Depends. If you're buying a new copy of windows anyway XP isnt much cheaper than Vista.

Use DVI if your TV supports it. There are various adapters available too.

Thanks for your help, its pretty much what i was guessing.

Im now thinking the iMac for a little extra would be cool, as theres a screen too !

Regarding XP running along OSX, i once saw a video which explained a OSX user who only had to press a couple of keys and the screen sort of rotated to an XP desktop. And he could do this very quickly, he could jump from OSX to XP to OSX whenever he wanted without shutting down or restarting or anything like that.

Also, if you try it, beware that if you install Windows to a virtual machine it uses up the license. ie. you can't run the same copy of Windows via bootcamp AND virtual machine. I learnt that the hard way.

I should have known, but it was only obvious after I'd done it. :D

i thought (and have been told on MS courses) that there's some wording in the licence which means you can use it for virtualisation as well as running a hard version

Not sure about XP, but there are only 1 or 2 versions (of Vista) you're allowed to run in VM mode.

I believe it violates the EULA, so don't go buying a Mac to run Ultimate without knowing the EULA terms and conditions :)
