Mac Mini – is the strategy right?

I was going to ask if that worked. Do you just use VLC or something?

I rip Blu-Rays in a lossless .MKV file with it, and use Plex (media centre app) to view them.

You can just use VLC though, if you want. It does have to be ripped first though as OS X doesn't play discs natively :)

This is a list of the Blu-Rays I've ripped with it so far.

Which in my eyes counts as not being able to do Blu-ray. Rips yes, Blu-ray no.
My girlfriend would cut my knackers off if she had to rip every disc before being able to play it.

My current HTPC just works. Push a Blu-ray in the front and it plays.
No messing about and fully girlfriend approved.

Apple have to get off their high horse, sure they make great products, but dictating things like no native Blu-ray support is just stupid in todays market.

I totally agree, but I'm just going with what I have.

I've been waiting for a Blu-Ray solution from Apple for years, but it's not come hence the need to rip. I actually prefer having all my Blu-Rays on a NAS though. Having the ability to pick any of the 100+ HD movies and play without faffing with a disc or going through 5 loading screens / disclaimers and trailers is worth the inconvenience that I have to occassionally rips discs when I buy them.

Don't get me wrong.. it took a while to get them all on but now it's a 20 minute job to rip when I get a new disc. If we really want to watch it, then I shove it in the PS3.
