Has anyone been on the auction sites recently?

Just been looking at the used Mac Minis on there recently - some of the markups are astronomical. A 2.0GHz intel Mini generall goes for between £400 and £450, some rising to £700! The newer models haven't yet reached their grubby hands thank god.

I saw a 1.42GHz G4 on there for £400 last night. Considering it's bordering on 5-6 year old technology, and even the original baseline intel Minis are about 4x faster, the markup is absolutely ridiculous!

You can get an end of line 2.0GHz intel mini for £399 new... hmm!

I've been looking off and on at second hand Minis, most of the prices out there are way too high!

Mac hardware retains its value very well.

I've sold things and broken-even many times. All about knowing when to sell.

I'm getting the impression that these are going for more than their original RRP though?

I know nothing about mac hardware. :)

Yes, but not to this point. The fact is, a G4 was going for £99 less than a current-gen intel Mini!

@kylew - I don't know - I've been trying to figure this one out myself for a while. I can't work out why they're selling for so much!

Couldn't agree more. Although having said that I have just gone back to a PC setup after 3 faulty 8/16 Core Mac Pro's earlier this year so will prob lose a fortune when I eventually sell my PC setup (as we all do). I also agree that Mini's seem to hold their value better than any other Mac item in fairness.

No idea why. Guess people do use them as media hubs but also the cheapest way in to OSX unless you wanna start messing round with a PC running OSX (which most don't).

I just sold a 2006 2.0Ghz CoreDuo MacBook with OSX 10.4 for £430 which I thought was very good considering it's age. The Apple hardware does seem to keep its value very well, you even see broken hardware selling for about half of it's retail price.

I sold my G4 Mac mini (1.42GHz, 512MB, 80GB? - mint condition with apple keyboard and mouse) for ~£220 on the normal auction site at the beginning of the year ... I was amazed as I was only really expecting, at most, half that ... in fact I had offered it to a colleague for £100 a couple of weeks earlier to avoid the hassle of listing it.
