I recently purchased a Santa Rosa MBP 2.2Ghz, and am new to Macs after being a PC user previously.
Q1. Is there any way of making Mac OSX open folders and files using a single click, rather than double click. More specifically the hard drive icon on the desktop. I couldn't find the option for it so any help is appreciated.

Useful Handy Tip for recent switchers!: I found out to switch between windows of an application the shortcut key is Command+~(tilde), which on my keyboard was above the right Ctrl key.

(on a tangent ,the samsung matte screen on my MBP has the 1/3 yellow tint as described in this thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=313239
so im gonna go back to the apple store to get it exchanged.... :( , so can't absorb myself fully into the macosx experience until I get a replacement...)

I have it but it depends which angle you're looking from. At first, I was concerned but I just forgot about it as I carried on using macbook pro.

Also some posters said that they have got the replacements because of the tint but they got the dead pixels or other problems! At least, I'm happy to say that all goes well with my macbook pro. :)

A post from macrumors forum:
I went to the Apple Store and compared four MBPs (a LG glossy, a Samsung glossy, a matte LG, and a matte Samsung). What I noticed is that all four panels had a hue-shift when comparing the top to the bottom of the screen. That is, when viewing the top directly, on the LG panels neutral colors seem to be towards the blue spectrum and in the Samsung panels they seem to be towards the magenta spectrum. When viewing the bottom directly, on the LG panels neutral colors seem to be toward the green spectrum and the Samsung panels towards the yellow. In general, the default calibration from the factory shows that the Samsung panels are warm while the LG panels are cold. Manual calibration may work to get these two screens closer in color.

My observations are of course subjective. I am not an expert in color theory and it may be that what I was seeing is just caused by a difference in viewing angle. FWIW, the hue shifts are not obvious in all four units and so I am not really sure if this is what everyone here refers to as "yellow tint."
