Hiya,

I have a one of the lovely Intel Macbooks! I can use it fairly well but I know nothing about fixing it!

Whilst downloading the latest update it started to install and then came up with an error saying it couldn't install. I clicked ok and it then said it needed to restart so I said ok.

Now it wont boot! It just stays on the grey screen with the little spinning thing going round and round. As I said I know nothing about Macs, what should I do? What options do I have?

Thanks a lot guys.

you could try booting up from the install cd by putting it in and during boot hold alt until the option appears. then go into disk utility during the install and repairing permissions.

that might work :)

Not legally, also Apple tend to have machine-specific Install CDs (so for example, I cant install OS X on my MBP using a Mac Mini set of CDs) and there isn't currently an Intel-compatible generic "retail" CD for Tiger.

Your best bet may be to take it to your nearest Apple store or see if you can loan the CDs from someone else with a MacBook.

Good luck, the option you probably want is to do an "Archive and Install" and tick the box for preserving user data. :)
