.mac service

I just started it not long, still playing around with iWeb for my webpage...

Got it off an auction site, not too shabby, £50 for 1 year, 10GB e.t.c. with own email and coupled with my own domain address, it's good value in my opinion - as .mac is very well integrated to OS X :)

Give it a try, it's free for 60 days ;)

I'm using it to keep things synched between my Tiger and Leopard installs. A shame Safari only syncs bookmarks, it would be better if it were more like Google's Browser Sync for Firefox.

The free trial only gives you 100MB of shared iDisk/email space, but it's enough to give you a taste.

Is the mail service good?

I have a .Mac acoount and have done so for years. The email service is good, especially automatic backup, it automatically put all my emails back into the original folders when I installed Leopard. Very easy.

As said, give it a try.

I think ill sign up for the trial tonight :)

I have a 20GB .Mac account.

I allocate about 1GB for Mail and the rest is purely storage :)

I originally got it to host a few uni projects on, but kept it ever since.. I'm happy.

I keep anything and everything on my .Mac (or at least important things I feel I might need if I'm away from my Mac).

For instance, I keep;

CV & Reference
Work Documents
Digital Photo backups (several folders across many GBs)
Videos
My essential applications

I have a 250Gb hosting account, with mail... It cost me less for 2 years than 1 year of .mac

Sure, I get no fancy integration, but that's life.

I am happy. ;)

;) I like the intergration..

..besides gmail gives me my majority of mail storage, 2GB was fine for me; just happened to be bumped by Apple.

How much mail do you have? :o

Gmail gives me all mine, and then some. :o

Nearly 5Gb from my main Gmail account and then another 2Gb from the Gmail hosted account.

I have every mail I've ever received/sent/saved since I opened my account in 2004/5 (when it was @gmail.com) ;)

Do they check what you put on there? Such as downloaded movies etc..

Not that I know of... who can say for sure?

At the end of the day you're paying them, it's not a good idea for them to be picky.. else you'd leave ;)

Sort of a "look the other way" mentality.

@WotDa.. spam? I don't know what you're talking about..

I like that Viagra, it makes me feel good.. oh, and my Nigerian friend sends me mails all the time. Me = popularz

I like the .Mac account, especially the nice email service. The only thing which was poo was the web hosting. I found the site I uploaded was so so slow to respond compared to my fasthosts one.

So now I just host my website on fasthosts and use .Mac for email and file storage.

Slighty off topic... But.. Can you mail me the Mail icons please EVH? :p

Oh, and what's with Apple giving them selves a nice blue box around mails from them?

Ok, so that whole lot was off topic. my bad. :o

Erm, so I may have left my name in it.. A name I can't legally use yet... :o

The blue boxes are a mail rule, have a poke around in their preferences :)
