Mac software issue (MW2)

See my post above.

I actually answered your post with links and a YouTube how-to, of how you can install Boot Camp. Can't say fairer than that :)

To go along the lines of; "The more I spend on a system, the more capable it will/should be to play my games" is just stupid.

Your mate is an idiot. Let's just get that straight. Also, he is doing computer science, - nothing to do with computer hardware and real life experience.

The short and blunt of it?

- Your Apple MacBook will never play that game on it's native OS (Mac OS x)
- To run that game, install Bootcamp + Windows 7. Even then - I highly doubt it would play it very well at all.

Tips:

- Next time, do your own research.
- Your mate is not to be trusted. Sounds like a complete idiot to me.

The desktop PC he could have gotten with that amount of money.....

I know! And even if he wanted something portable like he said in the OP he could have got a pretty bad ass gaming laptop for £3,000. :p

Instead he has something which is virtually useless at playing modern games at high detail and acceptable framerates. And he still has to spend more money buying a copy of Windows 7 for the majority of games to work at all anyway...

Wait a minute, I play MW2 on my Mac Mini under bootcamp.

Obviously low res (1024+ iirc) and low settings but it runs fine and looks fine.

I don't know anyone who's bought it straight for the Mac, namely cos' its still expensive but I suggest dragging it to the trash and starting again, unless....there is a setup file which/where you can change settings.

If he bought a PC version of the game (I don't know if there is a MAC version) then he can forget about playing it on OS X. Will never work.

Yeah its been out for a while, it is now on the Mac App Store too. Priced like 39.99 in stores and 29.99 on a 2 year old game, no thank you!

But who in their right mind would buy a Mac with gaming in mind? Sure, Apple are coming round to the idea of their machines being used for gaming more and more, especially after the successes of the iPhone and such. I'm just at a loss as to why the OP wonders why we are questioning his friends computer expertise when he asked for suggestions on a portable gaming machine and was recommended a MacBook Pro and an Apple Cinema Display.

Don't get me wrong I love Apple hardware, I've got a MacBook and an iPhone myself, but if I had £3,000 to spend and portable gaming was a big focus then I'd go and buy an Alienware or something.
