Mac vs PC

They aren't overpriced.

Find a laptop with the same build, size and speed of the MBA... you're left with the Samsung Series 9, which costs the same. Even then certain aspects aren't as good.

All in one 27" desktop with an IPS screen? There's nothing comparable.

Can you link me an example cos I don't know what i'm looking for. Ta.

If you give me the "Thinkpads are certified for use in space, that's what makes them such good quality" argument, I'm going to tell you that so is the iPhone 4. So it's not much of an argument on their quality. Unless of course iPhone 4s are as high quality in build as a Thinkpad.

You'd have trouble getting signal though ;)

I feel like the people that start these threads are the Jehovah's Witnesses of the computer community.

PC users that believe they possess the divine truth and must educate the unenlightened Mac users, who don't really care.

I think there's a lot of questions to be raised as to why anybody would use OSX over Linux.

I've used many varieties of *nix, Windows and OS X over the years and I have to say if you can't answer that question then you're a noob. :p Horses for courses is about right. I love my MBP because of the entire package (aluminium unit, great screen, trackpad, nice OS) but I use Windows 7 x64 on my desktop and *nix on my servers and for the kids' PC.

Arguing over which is 'best' is laughable tbh, especially when it turns into stupid blatantly false statement-slinging. Just behave, children. :p

I have a specced up 15" MacBook Pro for about ~18 months now and it's brilliant.

I have a Windows computer that I tend to game on still :)

This debate has been done to death and the fan boys on each side just don't back down.

What, the series 9?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/samsung-series-9-900x-laptop-review/

Obviously can't link to a shop, but they go for £1,099. The same price as a MBA with a higher res screen, faster CPU and longer battery life.

Meant a desktop really but that looks pretty sweet.

Was looking at an iMac MC814 which is £1550 at a competitor and i've just built a very similar system on the overclockers site for £1100 with this monitor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-166-SA&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

Granted it's lower resolution but at that price you can add a second monitor.

That article says:

The 1366x768-resolution, 400-nit screen boasts Samsung's SuperBright Plus technology, and its one heck of a viewing experience.

Our only ungranted wish comes with the resolution – we would have liked to see a higher-end option, like the 13-inch MacBook Air's 1440 x 900-resolution panel

??

My girlfriend uses a mac, I use a PC, The only difference is that she usually can't open work from my pc, I can always open work from her mac,

Sometimes she will ask how to do something and my reply is "oh just download generic program A" but they won't have a mac version but I guess if you use macs primarily you would know what to use in that situation,

She only got it because she has an iphone and they look pretty, it browses the web well enough and it supports firefox, it is really just a silly expensive notebook that looks pretty in our house

That's not really the same higher spec goods come with a premium.
You also have to remember CS, same as why many of us buy logitech, even though I can buy a keyboard for a 10th of the price, they aren't same build quality, CS or product.

This has been done to the death and fanboys will be fanboys.

Anyway w7 all the way.

Boring threads, always started by the Mac haters.

A lot of new users are just 'bored' of windows and fancy a change - nothing wrong with that (me included). Who cares whether they want to spend a little extra to get a great all round package if they can afford to?

To say Mac owners are non 'tech savvy' is just ridiculous. Like many others, I work in an IT role surrounded by a mix of geeks, and those that couldn't give a stuff outside of work. Mac ownership is growing and growing where I work, some of which are the geekiest 'tech savvy' people around.

I know 2 people now who has iPhone 4.

Both dropped it and cracked the glass.

Both went into the Apple Store and said they dropped it, without a receipt (they could easily got the phone from O2 or Orange.)

Both got a free replacement on the spot.

Name another store that will offer that level of customer service.

Hardware and software aside, you cannot beat their customer service.

So does Android!!!! but better :P ;)

But it isn't all in one, it's a desktop. Form factor is a big reason why people go for the iMacs and it adds a lot of perceived value.

Also that screen you linked is a TN panel, not IPS.

Yes... 1440x900 is more than 1366x768  The MBA has a higher res.

The only way any business can afford to operate like that, is if they make a large margin on the original product in the first place.
You get nothing for free in this world.
