Macbook Air

Just got back from the Apple store in Regent Street.
I asked about the Air running VM and Win7, the guy wanders off, then comes back and says "maybe you should try one of the Pro machines?". I said no (but had a look anyway to humour him!).

I asked to look at the Air models again and he started telling me how much easier and cheaper it is to upgrade a Pro (it was pretty chunky - def not one of the new models).

Anyway - really liked both Air 11" and 13" so really stuck now. Didn't realise the 11" comes with the same upgrade options at the 13" and Ivy Bridge CPU + HD4000.

In the end they said I would be better off using bootcamp if I need to use Win7, even after saying I'd opt for the i7 and 8GB RAM. Do these people know what they're talking about or am I too cynical!

Very nice machines btw.

Yeah Airs are awesome I'm going to buy the 13" model next month, base CPU but with 8GB and 256 SSD. I can't be bothered carting around an external drive so the extra capacity would be handy as it will be my main machine for a while.

Generally apple staff are very helpful as its a specialist store and the staff are properly trained. It's becasue you said the word "windows" aloud inside the store!

I think they're all drones in there. But I guess its the same for most retail shops where you do get some that really know their stuff. The snobbery with some of them is really annoying though. Might just be my experience :P

I was in the Apple store a few weeks ago looking at the MBA just before placing an order. Got talking to one of the guys there and when I took my Samsung Galaxy S2 out he asked straight away "Why haven't you got an Iphone"

I was like 'errr, cause I like this phone?" and he goes "yea but an Iphone is better"

Then stupidly tired to justify why I don't have an Iphone - "I like the Android OS" and got the same reply "But, an Iphone is better" LoL

Received my MBA today. After charging, running software update and installing some essential apps I timed how long it takes to boot from off: 12.1 seconds

Can't wait to receive mine, Delivery date was changed to the 7th (Don't think UPS Standard Delivery includes Saturdays though). Will post some pictures up when it arrives :)

Received mine yesterday to find it had been damaged in transit, there's a fine dent about 2 inches long on the bottom of the laptop, seems it bust have impacted on the power brick as the positioning matches up in the box. Rang apple and they have said they will pick it up and send another out which means a two week wait again. Pretty annoying.

I've suggested they send the replacement to an apple store and when it has arrived I could go and exchange. At least that way I aren't without on for a while. Just waiting to see what is said. Just my luck :(

Got my Macbook Yesterday(Since its 1am now :o), Really easy to get used too, Love how silent it is and light too!

Now i need to find a list of good apps to get :)

Will post some pictures on Things we bought in July in General Discussion :D

Hi Guys

how do you connect the following cables to MBA?

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter

Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter

Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (with audio)

do the apple stores keep stock of the macbook airs configured with 8GB ram, or is buying online the only option?

They keep a variation of Mac builds, depends on the store to what they have in stock. You would need to contact the specific store and ask them.
