MacBook alternative

So, I got a friend who destroyed his MacBook in a rage fit.
Now he is looking to buy a new one and I am trying to save him some money and go with a PC alternative.
He recognizes the price/performance difference between PC and Mac but still wants a notebook that "looks nice".

Any ideas? He would be willing to spend £400-£600 for a non-Mac.

HP DM / DV series. the new ones with metal chassis, and core i(xxx) processors.

There is a new alloy samsung on it's way. The Qx series, not sure on pricing yet.

Specs are i5 CPU and a gforce 310 with optumus.

Lol why did he destroy his Macbook? Does he still have the logic board at all as mine is on the blink...

Anyway, looks can be subjective but I think that some of the 13" HP laptops look quite nice but I can't remember the model number I'm afraid.

probably the dm3. One version comes with a Neo X2, a HD4330, and a external optical drive for £500.

It happend to be in the way of a flying chair

It's a shame he still hasn't got it, even if the screen and case is cracked there's a chance that the logic board survived...

about on par with Intel's CULV core duo processors (SU4100, SU2300, ...).
