what did he burn it with?
The Macbook superdrive reads all formats, but it obviously depends what he wrote it with?
How much space does the disc show?
Insert it, go into finder and press "applekey+i" to get an info tab on the disc.

sorry but this wasnt a problem with the mac reading the dvd rw. my mates pc showed it was recording but nothing is on the dvd, i check it with my windows pc, so suprise suprise the problem is with my mates windows pc burning software.
