Quick question. Can I connect my MacBook to my Sony TV in the following way:

MacBook -> MiniDVI to DVI adaptor -> DVI to HDMI cable

or do I need to use vga or dvi to vga?

Cheers.

You'd want to make sure that you can disable overscan on the HDMI input (often called 'Full Pixel' on Sony sets) else a portion of the picture will be lost on each side and the remaining picture scaled up to fill the space.

Hmmm this is the problem i am having on my panasonic plasma so what should i look for on my panasonic plasma as i dont see anything i could alter

You simply can't on many sets, unfortunately.

This is annoying because overscan is unnecessary for flat panel sets and does nothing but harm the picture quality. It's a legacy of goldfish bowl CRTs.

The main thing I looked for when buying my own TV was the ability to display 1080p 1:1 pixel perfect with no scaling!

Have a look to see if the TVs are listed on here:

Edit: I think the Displays System Preference section actually has a checkbox to compensate for overscan when it thinks it is connected to a TV. Not sure how well it works.

My KDL-26S3000 allows 1:1 (1360 x 768) on both the HDMI and VGA inputs. Both HDMI and VGA uses 1:1 even if you put the resolution at less than 1360 x 768 (centered with black borders). See

Whatever the hell all that lot means....

You can definitely do this, it's what I do with my HDTV - the DVI adapter thing with a DVI to HDMI adapter cable :)
