He'd have a job marking a package that size as "gift" without it being picked up by customs for inspection.

I believe the only way to get it across without VAT is to carry it on as hand luggage, or hire a haulage company to transport it across and class it as a removal?!

I've never tried the latter though..

You've not got any experience with it then? Myself and around thirty others got Rock Band posted from the US, huge box, marked down to $30. The postage cost three times that yet they were ALL fine.

The latter? You put the laptop into a case to protect it, put it in your hand luggage. Post yourself the box back home, or throw it away.

Im doing the same getting mine from th us in FEB and thought the same.

I highly doubt they will give you the student discount. Have a look and see if the terms are on their site.

Yeah you can get discount in the stores, you just need a form of ID.
