Macbook hard drive

ahh niceone, very useful link thanks :)

whilst there appears to be people who know wtf they are doing in osx reading here i may as well get another one off my chest...

all these programs that i keep seeing recommended, i am downloading and running but they seem to only run as a sort of mounted disk image? the minority that download as .mpkg files (i guess this is sort of a self-exracting installer) install nicely, i can clear up the downloaded file from the desktop and they still work. but those that are .dmg files just mount and i have to keep remounting them to run them!

isn't there a way to install them properly, like into the equivalent of program files (library?) and put a permanent shortcut to them in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen?

I think theres a guide on here how to install, basically the image inside the mounted thing move into applications and if you want it on the bar at bottom just drag it. If i made sense :p

oh yeah, flipping heck - that was easy! :)

lmao this is great.

i should probably have read the sticky in this forum before btw, sorry just seen that as i originally posted in this thread by searching for macbook.

Took me 10 mins to figure out how to organise the icons in folders :o

Then i noticed all the options and stuff at the top, i was trying to right click like in windows to do it. But so far i'm loving this macbook apart from how easy it is to mak :p Has anyone ever had problems with the keyboard leaving marks on the screen after closing it? I've had to put something inbetween to prevent it :(

Yep. to uninstall you just grab the application out of the Applications folder (or where ever else you put it) and place it in the trash. :)

Part of the idea of using mounted disk images is that they check themselves for file integrity before starting so you tend not to get corrupt files.

If i reinstall OS x will it install all the applications it originally came with?

Also if i just put applications i want onto a disc, they will work fine if i just copy them from disc > applications folder after i've done it? As theres no registry so won't have problems or?

Just curious what temps people with macbooks have been getting. When i watch videos on youtube it seems to heat up pretty fast and the fans come on, is this normal from just watching a video?
Flash-based stuff seems to guzzle up all the CPU time possible whenever it is present. Really annoying on laptops with dynamic fan speeds - I use a Firefox extension called Flashblock so that Flash page elements require a click to start.

Yes.

Easy isn't it? :D
