Hi
I am looking to upgrade my Macbook Hard Drive. I was looking for a 100Gb 7200rpm.

What kind of HDD is in the Macbook? Its states it’s a SATA on the Apple website. Are all SATA Connections the same.

Has anyone bought & Changed there Macbook HDD?

Does anyone have any reccomendations?

Any other Advice much appreciated.

Cheers

and remind me why thats got anything to do with the Linux, OS X & Open Source section of the forums

Hi

all SATA connections are the same as far as i'm aware, i would stick with the same speed drive to avoid heat issues. not sure where the drive is on these new macs but use to be a pain to change on the ibook g3's.

just found this:-

it's a doddle to do looking at that.

cheers

A bunch of us wanted a Mac specific forum created but our request never got anywhere so we are stuck asking Mac related questions under Linux, OS X & and Open Source. Please feel free to complain to OCUK it might get us what we wanted but till then I am affraid you will have to put up with us :)

The standard drive is a 5400rpm 2.5" SATA.

It will be fine with a 7200rpm, and changing it is easy if you follow the steps in the youtube video

to be fair, i think it probably needs to be asked once more whether a specific 'mac users' forum is required, i see more and more people on these forums getting a mac since the intel chip migration and affordable mac products have become available like the mini.

Also, perhaps then the Linux/Windows users will visit there less often, which often turns a topic into a "My OS is better than yours, damn right".

I'm not saying there's no Mac fanatics running to Windows thread and brag but it defo reduce the count.

You really see this sort of behavior in this forum? Can you show me some examples of Linux users exhibiting that attitude?

Also certain people seem to forget this was a Linux/ Open-source forum long before it was a Mac forum. And most of the "my OS is better than yours" were originally started by Mac users!

I think it's fair to move this one tbh - it's turned into more of a generic SATA HDD question. :)

Oh, and can we put the Mac forum question to bed right now please. It's not on topic for a start.

go for the hitachi 7k100. i've got the pata version ...and believe it or not, it is quicker and my battery life has been extended!!!
i read somewhere a comparison between the rubbish drives fixed on powerbooks and the hitachi. indeed, the hitachis have a lower power consumption.
